Real food shock – at London festival

London: WeÂ’ve hand-picked the very best produce and ingredients that we could find to bring you the biggest Farmers Market in the country and you, being as passionate about produce as we are, should come and meet some of the best producers, taste their delectable produce, learn from them and challenge your tastebuds.

Over 500 producers will gather at Earls Court 24-7 April 2008 to celebrate food that is good, clean and fair. With all the talk about the integrity, quality, provenance & sustainability of food in the UK and around the world, we thought it would be a great idea to show you the choices that are out there.

The big difference with the Real Food Festival is that the producers that are hand picked to attend are also heavily subsidised to exhibit. This means that you will get the opportunity to meet some of the best and smallest producers in the world and eat some of the most fabulous food that will leave your mouth watering and your toes tingling!

As well as the amazing producers, you will also be able to learn how to bake bread with food guru Barny Haughton of BristolÂ’s renowned Bordeaux Quay, taste wines with the maker, challenge yourself in a food debate, tantalise your tastebuds in a taste workshops, meet some pigs, follow a produce trail or just chill on a hay bale and listen to a farmers story. Real Food is passionate not preachy, the integrity of the festival will challenge the way most of us think about food on a day to day basis and will inspire a wide audience to change their eating habits in favour of a more sustainable way of eating and enjoying produce.

The FestivalÂ’s Taste workshops will teach you all sorts of things from the differences between cows and goats milk to wheat and malt beers. The workshops provide the ultimate test for your taste buds, created by eco-gastronomes Clodagh McKenna and Sebastiano Sardo of Foodiscovery.

The Real Food Festival is not just a London event. We have just returned from a gastronomic road trip around the country where we have been meeting local producers, from Jersey to Orkney. You will be able to meet the people who reared the pigs, planted the carrots, milked the cows and crushed the grapes: you can taste their produce, learn about it and take it home.

Eco Icons such as Zac Goldsmith, fully support our festival, ‘The way we eat, what we eat, where our food comes from, these are central issues. The Real Food Festival will change the way we think about food and give producers and consumers an opportunity to meet and share their passion for authentic quality produce’.

We promise to celebrate the diversity of modern artisan food, from producer to plate. Visitors will be able to meet and speak to 500 hand-picked producers from Britain and the world.

Visit our website The Real Food Festival to get updates of our journey. Tickets which can be bought online cost ÂŁ15.

More people will live to be 100, say experts

London: Experts are predicting that more than a million people born in the UK and now aged 30 could live to be 100 years old and more.

Currently there are around 10,000 centenarians but this figure could grow to 1.2million by 2074. In effect this means that one in eight people could live to be 100 while thousands of others will live to be 110 or more, acccording to statistics from the UK Government’s Actuary Department. This spurt in longevity is attributed to better diet and medical care.

Improved diet and lifestyle, especially among the affluent, are also responsible. And the decline of heavy industry means that workers are far less likely to be exposed to the health risks and dangers or heavy machinery.

The increased use of cholesterollowering drugs in recent years has been shown to reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Under new prescription guidance to GPs, up to one in ten adults could end up taking statins to prevent cardiovascular disease.

This could save 20,000 lives a year while some experts believe a quarter of Britons could end up taking the drugs for life.

Doctors now perform regular screening to detect diseases such as cervical cancer and the breakthrough of drugs such as herceptin to treat breast cancer are helping to keep the number of deaths down.

The eradication of many infectious diseases during the last century has had a huge impact.

Child immunisation, better sanitation and increased use of antibiotics have swept away most cases of smallpox, diphtheria and tuberculosis.

Britons are also more aware than ever of the benefits of taking regular exercise. This can help reduce the risk of obesity, heart disease, strokes and diabetes.

Countless studies have also shown that eating a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables can help control cholesterol and prevent some types of cancer.

The growth in longevity would also have a big impact on the size of the UK population as a whole, with the number of people living in the country growing to 75million by 2074 based on these figures.

The population could soar even higher, to 90million, if the highest projections for fertility rates and immigration are also factored in.

Figures released by the Office for National Statistics last year revealed big differences across the UK. People living in Scotland and the north of England came out worse, with the lowest life expectancy for both men and women found in Glasgow. In contrast those men living in the affluent area of Kensington and Chelsea in London enjoyed the longest lifespan, at 80.8 years – 11.5 years more than in Glasgow. Women in this area also had the longest life expectancy at 85.8 years, compared with 76.4 in Glasgow.

Women can expect to live to 89

London: Women in the UK aged 65 today can expect to live until 89 as a result of improvements in life expectancy, says a report from the insurance actuarial profession.

The figures also reveal that men of the same age will on average reach their 86th birthday. Life expectancy figures are expected to continue to improve with men aged 65 in 2015 living until they are 90 and women until 93. Longevity is improving as a result of improved medical treatment for killer diseases such as cancer.

Whilst this is good news, state and private pension systems in most western countries are already suffering from the burden of a growing ageing population and poor investment returns. In the UK the Government is attempting to raise the age of retirement.

The figures, from the Continuous Mortality Investigation, suggests the life expectancy of today’s 65-yearold men is three-and-a-half years longer than in 1994, when the last study was conducted by the CMI. They questioned savers who are more likely to be middle-class and better off financially.

Official figures put life expectancy lower because they take data from all social groups. The latest Government figures show a girl born in 2002 can expect to live until 80. A boy born in the same year can expect to live until 76.

Cellular Therapy

Cellular therapy – also known as live cell therapy, cellular suspensions, glandular therapy, fresh cell therapy, embryonic therapy, refers to certain treatments in which the processed tissue from animal embryos, foetuses or organis, is injected or taken orally.

The theory is that the material from the organs correspondents with the ailing or diseased organ. The animals cells work by regenerating the unhealthy organ.

The organs and glands used include thymus, liver, kidney, pancreas, spleen, heart, ovary, testis, brain, pituitary and thyroid. They can be given individually or in combination.

The Swiss physician Paul Niehans (1882-1971) is known as “the father of cell therapy”. He founded the famous Clinique La Prairie in Clarens-Montreaux in Switzerland.

There are other clinics, mostly in Europe, offering this therapy in various forms.
There are several variations of cell therapy: the actual organic matter used can be frozen, freeze-dried or suspended in a serum. It can also be taken orally or injected intramuscularly. The cells are usually taken from the embryos of sheep or lambs.

The US company Cell Life Forever, for example, offers oral live cell therapy for the brain, prostate, muscle, skin, testical, kidney, heart, liver, bone marrow and placenta, amongst others.

The company sources its product in France and says that it is checked by the French government’s Institute Alfred Fournier laboratory.

Cell Life Forever says: “Some people may feel or see changes immediately, while others may take a number of supplements and not see any changes. “

The company says that it is unique in providing live cells. In Germany for example, Opotherapy treatments use products altered by sterilisation.

The Baxamed Clinic (Basel, Switzerland) offers “biomodular cell therapy”, which it says can be used as a preventative measure against ageing and also in the the treatment of various diseases.

The fetal cells are sourced from bovine and sheep organs from controlled herds in Australia and New Zealand.

Diseases that can be treated by biomodular cell therapy include congestive heart disease, sexual impotence, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, chronic fatigue, many auto-immune diseases and Down Syndrome. The treatment is customized to each patients’ needs. The products are injected intramuscularly, usually without any negative reaction.

RNA Products

RNA products are made exclusively of biologically active Ribonucleic Acids from fetal organs. These are essential components ov every single cell in the body. They are responsible for carrying out the instructions embedded in the nucleus of the cell for the growth and maintenance of the cell. During the time of youth there is an abundant supply of RNA to ensure the cells health. After the age of 40, though the amount of RNA in each cell dwindles as time passes and chronic degenerative diseases based on a malfunctioning cell repair system start to occur. These products supply the cells with the missing RNA. They come in single organ preparations and in combination products. For a general revitalisation, the RN 13 is commonly used. RN 13, as the name says, contains the RNA of 13 different organ systems. The main strength of RNA though is the successfull treatment of many degenerative diseases, such as Parkinson’s, MS, Post Polio Syndrome and others. The effect of RNA treatment comes on over an extended period of time. Depending on the site and severity of the disease, the effects are usually noticeable within 1 to 3 weeks, In severe cases, the treatment should be repeated every 1 to 2 years.

Thymus Therapy

The Thymus product we use contains 50 mg Thymus Extract with standardized polypeptides including Thymosin. It is used in the treatment of:
Impaired Immune Function
Old Age
Opportunistic Infections
Chronic Infections
Rheumatoid Diseases
Support of Cancer treatments
Prevention of Allergies

The most important system in the human body is the immune system. it is responsible for fighting off infective agents such as bacteria and viruses. More important though is its neuroendocrine ability. Research has shown that there is an important link between Thymus hormones and other hormones in the entire body. Thymus hormones induce other glands to produce their specific hormones. In addition, a healthy immune system is of the essence to prevent autoimmune diseases from developing. Thymosin is used not only in the treatment of disease, but also as a preventive measure. The usual course of treatment involves 10 intramuscular injections given over a period of 3 weeks.

Drs Anita and Sam Baxas offer recombinant human growth hormone therapy, live cell therapy, thymus and RNA injections, plaquex and chelation infusions to avoid bypass and amputation surgery, and other European antiaging therapies.

The Baxamed Medical Center has a “Youth Restoration Programme” in which a blood analysis determines the level of hormones such as HGH, Testosterone, Estrogen, Progesterone and DHEA, all of which decline with age. The clinic’s therapy replaces the missing hormones in the correct dosage. The clinic also offers fetal cell therapy injected intramuscularly. The patient then continues the treatment at home.

The philosophy of the Baxamed Medical Center:

“The goal of conventional medicine is to keep patients alive. Just “being alive” though doesn’t mean there is any quality to life. Frequently “being alive” means being incarcerated in an ageing body, dependent on the help of others for even the simplest activities. It means loss of strength and vigor, loss of mental capacity and loss of many body functions. It means loss of independence and dignity.

Alternative medicine and specifically the Youth Restoration Program not only keeps the patient alive, it makes the patient strong with full physical and mental capacity to live a rich and independent life. The patient doesn’t become a burden on society, he remains a contributing member of it.

It is our belief that ageing is a disease, primarily caused by the waning secretion of hormones and by the degradation of cells in every organ. Many scientific papers have been written about how the production of hormones, such as HGH, Testosterone, Estrogen, Progesterone and DHEA, decline massively with age. It is also well documented that the decline in hormones typically causes many changes in body function and structure for the ageing patient.

It is thus logical that if we replace the missing hormones and cellular building blocks to repair damaged cells of organs, we can come close to bringing back a normal, youthful structure and physiology.”

Baxamed’s Youth Restoration Program consists of a full laboratory and physical analysis of the status quo. Then all necessary hormones are replaced in the correct dosage to reach the levels of 25 to 30 year old healthy people. The organs are revitalized by 29 different fetal cell preparations that are injected intramuscularly. In addition, we recommend a hair mineral analysis to determine the nutritional status of the cells and the load of heavy metal toxins.

The treatment is initiated at the medical center and continued by the patient in the comfort of his home.

Located near the banks of the Rhine river in Basel, Switzerland, the clinic is reputed to be the first in the world to implement the use of Human Growth Hormone. Baxamed Medical Center specialises in anti-ageing medicine applying various treatments such as cell-therapy, thymus shots, ozone treatments and chelation infusions. As the role of hormones in the ageing process became a matter of intensive study, hormone replacement therapy with DHEA, Melatonin, Testosterone, Estrogen has been added to the already successful treatments.

The first study on the youthful effected of HGH were published in 1990 by Dr. Rudmann and subsequently the doctors at Baxamed Medical Center studied the literature on this hormone intensively and started treating healthy older patients with this newly discovered hormone.

The results were and still are incredible. Patients report feeling energetic, loosing fat and gaining muscle strength. Some have improved hearing and disposed of their hearing aids. Others report less gray hair. HGH was able to dramatically push anti-ageing medicine into a new era of study and application. Most clinics using HGH now days apply the principle of blood result evaluation and HGH dosaging developed by the physicians at Baxamed. For more than 10 years these physicians were able to gather ample experience in the replacement of HGH and other hormones.

To start anti-ageing treatment, the patient travels to Basel, and stays in accommodation in one of the city’s hotels. At the clinic the patientsÂ’ personal health history and problems are discussed and a comprehensive blood test is performed to determine the hormone status and dosage requirements. Prior to the patientsÂ’ visit he or she will receive a kit to have a hair mineral analysis done. The results will determine if certain minerals should be taken and if there is a presence of heavy metals and should be removed. Not only the hormone replacement, but also the optimal combination of cell therapy preparations depends on a thorough examination of the patient. Once all the results are available, a personalized treatment plan is made including cell-therapy, thymus therapy and hormone replacement.

The cell combination depends on the age of the patient, the general condition and particular health considerations, and which organs require treatment to improve their function.

For patients with time constraints it is more efficient to bring all necessary laboratory results from their home town as required by Baxamed. In this case prior to the visit to the clinic lab results are taken and the questionnaire answered and faxed to Baxamed. Then the treatment can then be pre-planned and arranged before the patient visits the clinic. The discussion of the treatment and all instructions can be taken care of in one day. The patient then receives all materials, medications and instructions to take home. However, a resting phase of a few days after the cell therapy is suggested to give the body the time and freedom of stress to absorb and utilize the injected cells. We try to make this stay as “unclinical” as possible which is why we advise our patients to stay in hotels nearby.

To heighthen the success of the anti-ageing treatment, diet and exercise as well as nutritional supplementation are discussed.

Patients with vascular disease (heart attack, angina, peripheral clogging of the blood vessels) are successfully treated with Chelation and Plaquex Infusions. This treatment takes several weeks and the infusions are applied 3-4 times weekly. Chelation infusions remove heavy metals and free radicals and Plaquex infusions remove the fat from soft plaque. Both also have extensive anti-aging properties. Baxamed has just added new treatment rooms to its office offering a relaxing and comfortable surrounding during the 2 ½ to 3 ½ hours the infusions take.
Clilnic staff are fluent in German, English and French as well as speaking some Spanish and Italian.

Between the treatments there is plenty of free time to explore the city of Basel and its surroundings. Basel, situated on a sweeping curve of the Rhine, is not only the golden gateway to Switzerland but is also one of the oldest University cities in Europe. Today it is still world-famous for its highly developed medical and pharmaceutical technology and the watch and jewellry fair each spring. Basel lies where the three countries, Switzerland, France and Germany, meet – on the border of romantic Alsace and only a stoneÂ’s throw from the legendary wine country of South Baden- and this has contributed to its growth into an international metropolis.

There are a number of interesting excursions and walks in the surrounding countryside as well as cultural activities and art which Basel has to offer: the nearby hills with their ancient ruins and castles, the theaters and concert halls with their international programs, the museums and the galleries, with their ever-changing shows and exhibitions.
