Win the must-have diet book that helps you Talk Yourself Slim – now closed!

This is the book for anyone fed up with diets that don’t work.  So if you want to lose weight and keep it off – enter our competition at the end of this page.  We have three copies of this bestseller, each worth £9.99 to give away. All you need to do is answer the simple question below.

Talk Yourself Slim with the Self-Chatter Diet was written from John Richardson’s childhood observations of his grandfather and mother. His grandfather was slim, and a naturally healthy weight, whereas his mother was not, and this was the true cause of her early disablement.

Talk Yourself Slim by John Richardson

Diets don’t work, do they? Not conventional, out-of-date, orthodox, restrictive diets – these are one of the fundamental instigators of obesity in the world today, fueled by the same diet industry that masquerades as a ‘solution provider’. It is not food that makes people overweight, but the behavioural manner in which food is eaten, and until obesity is addressed and treated behaviourally, no solution will ever be found.

In this book you will discover the true cause of obesity: beliefs, habits and associations. Richardson first provides a way in which these rogue behaviours can be identified. He then questions them and challenges them, allowing readers to form a general understanding of a method through which they can be changed.

Talk Yourself Slim was written to facilitate permanent weight-loss success, and nothing more. This simple yet highly effective method is uniquely innovative in its approach, ideal for anyone fed up of diets that don’t work, who wants to lose weight and keep it off!

John Richardson is founder and owner of The Feelbetterfast Clinic, home of the original Dr Rocket’s Hypno-Gastric Band Procedure. He gained his diploma in Holistic Hypnotheray under the guidance of one of the UK’s leading analytical holistic hypnotherapists, and was also taught the secrets of the stage hypnotist by David Knight, principal of The British Academy of Hypnosis, of which he became Master Hypnotist.

THE WINNERS OF THIS COMPETITION ARE: Helen Dooher, from Chesterfield; Tom Bains, from Liverpool.

US health watchdog refuses to OK new diet pill

Lorcaserin [320x200].jpg The US’s Food & Drug Administration has refused permission for the manufacturers of Lorcaserin, a new diet pill, to put it on the market.

The FDA told Arena Pharmaceuticals this was because of concerns about its marginal effectiveness and about cancers that occurred at higher-than-usual rates during clinical trials with rats. The FDA’s decision comes just two weeks after the makers of the prescription diet-pill Meridia was banned in the US and Canadian markets at the request of the FDA.

Lorcaserin was developed by Arena Pharmaceuticals, the San Diego drug company in partnership with Eisai Co.

Among the FDA’s concerns were weight-loss results that failed to rise to the FDA’s standards for approval, and an  increase in cancerous breast and brain tumors in rats that were given a dose of the drug that is higher than that proposed for humans.

A clinical trial of Lorcaserin published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that two-thirds of patients lost at least 5% of their body weight, while a third lost at least 10% of body weight, with an average loss of 17 to 18 pounds.

Allow to rest in a warm place for 2-3 minutes.

Meanwhile to make the sauce, add Canderel, wine, zest and juice of orange, cranberries and cranberry jelly to saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes until thickened and syrupy.

Rooibos antioxidant tea – a healthy way to cut calories

London: The British are renowned worldwide for their love of tea, which has established a place in the country’s culture and heritage. However consumers are increasingly looking for a wider range of tastes and flavours, particularly healthy options to enhance hectic 24-hour lifestyles.

Consumers nowadays want more from the perfect cuppa. They want it to be reviving and thirst quenching but also stuffed full of healthy benefits. South Africans claim their national drink, Rooibos Tea, ticks all the right boxes. Naturally caffeine-free and low in harmful tannins, redbush tea, as it is also known, is incredibly hydrating and it’s high level of antioxidants, nine trace minerals and low levels of oxalic acid make it a fantastic choice of drink to complement a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Consultant Nutritionist Jane Griffin comments: “Rooibos tea offers another way to keep you well hydrated with the added bonus that it can be also help increase your intake of a range of antioxidants and trace minerals. It is naturally caffeine free too so if variety is the spice of life then Rooibos tea certainly deserves a place in the UK tea drinker’s repertoire.”

The leaf can only be grown in the remote Cederberg mountain region of the country, known for its wild craggy peaks, clean air and pure mountain streams. South Africans have been enjoying the drink for centuries and us Brits will be happy to know many of the traditional ways in which the leaf is harvested and dried have remained the same for hundreds of years. The tea is considered so soothing it is even given to babies with feeding problems and is known locally in South Africa as the South African lullaby due to it’s beneficial properties when fighting colic.

Countless tea companies, including Dragonfly Teas, Eleven O’Clock, Redbush, Tick Tock, Tetley and Twinings stock Rooibos tea in the British market which means we can enjoy all the health benefits of this amazing South Africa cuppa in our own front room.

Share your diet worries with weight management experts

image

London: Join weight management expert Dr Ian Campbell (pictured right) as he talks through issues relating to weight management and the phenomena of “yo-yoing” in a live web chat on Wednesday 20th June Chat time: 12:30 (GMT).

Can you relate to the one in ten women who have not applied for a job because they worry they are overweight or perhaps, like a quarter of women, you shut yourself in the home refusing to go out because you are so miserable about your weight? Most of us are aware of the health implications of being overweight, but size can also affect how we feel about ourselves as almost four out of five women feel there is a direct link between how much they weigh and whether they are happy or confident.

It’s not just women that this applies to though. According to research by Slimthru, one in ten men have let concerns about their weight prevent them from going on a date and nearly a quarter have been on a diet in preparation for a holiday. With more than half the country constantly dieting, it is comforting to know we are not alone but how can we lose those extra pounds, drop a dress size and keep the weight off for good? Eating less naturally leaves us with terrible hunger pangs but how can we stop ourselves from bingeing on crisps and chocolate and putting the weight back on?

Not only is it frustrating to regain all those pounds we lost but it is also hardly healthy to be constantly losing and gaining weight. With summer here, more than a quarter of people will go on a diet ahead of their holiday but what is the best way to lose those extra pounds and keep them off?

Dr Ian Campbell and Linda Duberley join us live online at < a href="http://www.webchats.tv/webchat.php?ID=394">www.webchats.tv on Wednesday 20th June at 12:30 to talk about loosing weight safely and keeping it off..

Ian Campbell A medical practitioner, Ian has become well known in the media for his direct and sensible approach to life. He is a full time GP and prominent campaigner for the prevention and treatment of obesity. Ian is a specialist at the Overweight Clinic, University Hospital, Nottingham, and founder and the first President of the National Obesity Forum. He is now the Honorary Medical Director of the leading charity “Weight Concern> ” , who won the Best New Charity of the Year Award in 2002 and works to address both the physical and psychological health needs of overweight people.

Hoodia diet food trials

London: A UK company is testing the use of hoodia, a cactus extract that stems hunger pangs, in diet foods.

The trial is being carried out by Phytopharm who will market the products, such as margarine and drinks, with Unilever.

Extracts made from the Hoodia gordonii plant are already a popular dietary supplement and was originally used by Kalahari bushmen of Africa to stave off hunger while on hunting trips.

Cambridge-based Phytopharm plans year-long clinical trials to see if volunteers given the extract in foods find their hunger pangs disappear.

Tests on rats have already found that they loose their appetite when given the active ingredient. ‘We are very excited so far at the success of the project and will take it from here,’ he said.

Diet and exercise balance key to bikini body

New York: A survey of 1,149 adults reveals that 65 percent of women will deprive themselves of sweets to slim for the swimsuit season. However, the key to success in slimming down is changing your routine and creating a balance between diet and exercise, says celebrity trainer Kathy Kaehler.

Kaehler, who has shaped diet and fitness regimens for such celebrities as Julia Roberts and Cindy Crawford, offers this advice to stay on track.

* Listen to Your Body. Most diets go off course when you deprive yourself of essential fats and carbohydrates. This can lead you to compensate by overeating. To avoid this trap, allow yourself a delicious, lower fat treat in moderation. “I often recommend bite-sized 3 Musketeers Miniatures to my clients because they have 45 percent less fat than the leading chocolate brands,” said Kaehler. “This fulfills a yearning without sacrificing long-term diet and fitness goals.”

* Mix It Up. Shake up your routine by changing the amount of repetition or type of exercise — increase the incline and speed, or take a different and more challenging class. Try hiking or running at the park once a week instead of going to the gym.

* Select a Training Partner. Choose a professional trainer who can provide the guidance and motivation to keep your fitness routine on track and help you focus on problem areas. If you can’t afford a trainer, ask a friend to become a workout buddy. It will help you enjoy your workout rather than view it as a chore.

* Get More Sleep. Sleep fuels the body and mind and allows you to recharge. If you don’t get enough sleep, you may feel sluggish or agitated, making it harder to focus and jeopardize your chances of staying on track.

* Set Realistic Goals. Keep your perspective — don’t unfairly compar yourself to Hollywood figures who have the money and time to spend all day shaping their bodies. Don’t expect results after only a few weeks in the gym. If you start with realistic goals, such as eating a healthier diet and doing 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise three times a week, it will be easier to stay motivated and see results over the long-term.
